Steininger Behavioral Care Services Celebrates

May is Mental Health Month

National Observance Emphasizes

Importance of Mental Health

Cherry Hill, NJ, May 4, 2006 - Steininger Behavioral Care Services joins mental health advocates across the country in celebrating May is Mental Health Month. Founded in 1949 by the National Mental Health Association (NMHA), Mental Health Month is a national health observance that focuses the nation’s attention on the importance of mental health and the realities of mental illness.

“Caring for your mental health is key to your overall health.  It is important to remember that mental illnesses are real, common, and treatable,” said Leonard S. Altamura, Steininger President/CEO.

This year’s mental health month theme, Mind Your Health, seeks to reinforce the message that people should think about their mental health as a daily part of life. People need to know that caring for their minds, as well as their bodies, is good for overall health and key to their success at home, at work and at school. NMHA and Steininger recommend the following tips to help plan a week that will leave you feeling good, inside and out:

Sunday: Relax by meditating or taking a walk in a natural setting.

Monday: Make a plan for the tasks you need to complete for the week

Tuesday: Surround yourself with supportive people

Wednesday: Take care of your body

Thursday: Volunteer your time to something that makes you feel good

Friday: Broaden your horizons with a new hobby or trying a new activity

Saturday: Treat yourself with kindness and respect and avoid self-criticism
